Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1:

Arrival at Bandaranaika International Airport. Our Chauffeur Guide will receive you at the airport and transfer you to Negombo to check you into your hotel. Relax before your tour

Day 2:

Morning drive to Sigiriya via Anuradhapura Sri Lanka’s first known kingdom built by King Anuradha.

Activities Included :

• Visit the ancient city of Anuradhpura. Anuradhpura has an illustrious history of over 1,000 years as the first capital of Sri-Lanka. Visit the secret city, an important Buddhist pilgrimage center, which has some of the largest Dagoba’s found in Sri-Lanka as well as the sacred Bodhi tree planted from sapling in the 1st century BC (recorded as the oldest tree in history).
• Visit standing statue of the Buddha at Aukana, another architectural marvel of the ancient Sinhalese. The rock cut statue which stands 39 feet above its decorated lotus plinth and 10 feet across the shoulders, belongs to the period of King Dhatusena (459-477 AD), the builder of the great reservoir Kalawewa.

Evening drive to Sigiriya for the overnight stay.

Day 3:

Morning: Climb the 5th century Rock Fortress of Sigiriya one of Sri Lanka's UNESCO world heritage sites. The history of Sigiriya dates back to over 5000 thousand years, to the Mesolithic period. Sigiriya (Lion Rock) came into prominence in the 5th centaury AD, King Kasyapa (477-495 AD) left Anuradhapura and built for himself at Sigiriya, a palace an city modelled on the mythical abode of "Kuvera" God of Wealth. About two hours can happily spent walking through its water gardens, and then up the steep steps - either hewn out of the rock or on circular iron staircases - past the frescoes.

Afternoon: Visit 2nd century Rock Cave Temple of Dambulla, which is the largest area of cave paintings found in the world. It has 5 caves with over 2,000 square meters of paintings and over 150 Buddha rock carvings.

Day 4:

Drive to Polonnaruwa.

Activities Included:

• Visit Polonnaruwa, the second capital, from the 10th to 12th century AD. See the ruins of the Royal Palace, Gal Vihara (three splendid statues of Buddha in upright, sedentary and recumbent postures carved out of one rock).
• Visit Medirigiriya. Medirigiriya is generally considered to be the best vatadage in the country. The circular building known as a vatadage was constructed to house and protect a dagaba built to enshrine the sacred relics of the Buddha. The Medirigiriya Vatadage is also known as the Madalagiri Vihara and was thought to have been built during Pre- Christian times. However, the existing vatadage built around the old chetiya belongs to the period of King Agbo (667- 683AD) and is thought to have been constructed by King Malaya.

Evening return to Sigiriya for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5:

Drive to Kandy - The last Royal Kingdom of ancient Sri-Lanka.

Enroute :

• Visit Alu Vihara temple which is a rock monastery located in a picturesque valley. This temple had been constructed in the 1st century BC.
• Viisit a Batik factory and experience the intricate art of traditional hand-made Batiks.

Afternoon :

• Tour of the city and surrounding areas of Kandy including visit to Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic of the Lord Buddha and visit to an arts & crafts center, a gem museum, a lapidary.

Evening : Attend to a Cultural Dance Performance

Day 6:

Morning : Visit the three temples of Gadaladeniya, Lankathilaka and Embakke which are some of the oldest buildings in the Kandyan kingdom dating from the 14th century A.D. They contain paintings and sculptures of great historical and artistic importance.

Afternoon : Visit the Royal Botanical Gardens which were first built as a pleasure garden by a Sinhala king and later expanded by the British. They are an expansive 147 acres and have an amazing variety of trees, plants and flowers.

Day 7:

Travel by Intercity Express to Nuwara Eliya. The intercity express is an adventure not to be missed while travelling in Sri-Lanka. You can be witness to the beautiful scenery as you climb into the higher altitudes of the hill country and its famous tea plantations and waterfalls. Your chauffer guide will meet you at the end of your train journey with your luggage and drive you to your hotel.

Activitiy Included: • The Tea Experience - Follow the tea pluckers pick “two leaves and a bud” to make the finest tea in the world.

Day 8:

Morning : Early morning hiking & trekking expedition to “World’s End”. World's End & the beautiful Bakers Falls are located on a high windswept saddle at approximately 2,100 meters above sea level. The plains are an expanse of misty grassland, scraggy trees and ice-cold rivulets. The forests and grasslands are home to a large number of wildlife including Sambhur, Wild Boar, Giant Squirrel, Blacknapped Hare and Leopard. "World's End" is an awesome escarpment with a 1,200-meter vertical drop and is considered to provide some of the finest views in Sri-Lanka

Nuwara Eliya to Horton Plains Entrance : 30 Km - 45Min
Horton Plains : Trekking - 3 to 4 Hours

Afternoon at leisure.

Day 9:

Morning drive along the mountain descent to Yala in the dry-zone. The dry zone National Parks are home to Elephants, Deer, Crocodile, Leopard and many species of endogenous and migratory birds.

Enroute: Visit Buduruwagala which is a group of seven monumental standing rock-cut Mahayana Buddhist figures. Carved in high relief on a cliff face the central Buddha figures is 51 ft in height and is flanked by Bodhisattva figures and the Goddess Tara. The figures were probably brightly painted as they still show some of their original paint and are dated around the 8th century AD.

Day 10:

Private Jeep Safari to Yala National Park. Yala is best known for its remarkable population of leopards, but great for all sorts of other wildlife as well. It's formed by a collection of smaller parks situated on the south east coast. With over 200 species of bird, and over 40 species of both reptiles and mammals. (Approx.4 Hours)

Day 11:

Drive along the southern coastline to Bentota.

Enroute : Visit the city of Galle, which was one of the main ports of Sri-Lanka. The Galle Fort, originally built by the Portuguese in the 1500s and later expanded by the Dutch in the 1600s, is a living world heritage site. It is also famous for its hand-made lace.

Day 12:

At leisure on the beach and visit the nearby areas.

Day 13:

Drive along the southern coastline to Colombo the Commercial Capital of Sri Lanka.

Enroute : Visit a Turtle Hatchery

Visit historic and interesting landmarks of Colombo including the exciting Pettah bazaar area, temples and mosques, town hall, residential area of Cinnamon Gardens, Independence Square, Old Parliament and the sea front at Galle Face Green.

Day 14:

Your chauffeur will drive you back to the Airport for your flight to your home country or next destination.
